Problem Letters

Purpose: To help Scouts to explore difficult issues and develop a response to these issues.

Development Stage:
• Identifying the problems
• Developing Awareness
• Measuring change

Instructions:
• The leader thinks of situations which young people may find themselves in which might be causing them to worry.
• The leaders or Scouts writes up these situations in the form of a letter to a problem page in a magazine.
• In groups of two or three, the Scouts are given a letter. The Scouts should then talk about the response that they would give the person who is writing the letter.
• As a group, the situations and responses to the different problems are shared and discussed.

Equipment Needed: Letters prepared in advance - paper and pens

There are examples of situations where this activity could be used in the project example 'Kids having Kids' (Section 6)
