ACTIVITY
PURPOSE
Balloon Debate To help Scouts to think about issues and form opinions on them. The issues and the opinions formed are then discussed in a group.
Balloon Prayers To help Scouts develop empathy and write short prayers on behalf of others.
Circle Discussion To help Scouts express their views and opinions and listen to the views and opinions of others.
Circle Game To provide information on a topic and help the Scouts to make decisions and express their views.
Diamond Ranking To help Scouts discuss a topic and the relative importance of different aspects of the topic.
Flow Charts To help Scouts to organise information in a logical way and think of the cause and effects of different actions.
Interviews To help Scouts to obtain information from someone who has experience or expertise in a certain topic.
Just a minute To help Scouts to share views and opinions on a subject and organise their thoughts
Who are the lucky ones? To provide information and help Scouts to develop empathy on a given topic.
Newspapers and Magazines To help Scouts gather information on a topic, consider how the topic is presented in the media (local, national and/or international) and the impact this has on the opinions that will be formed in the public.
Opinion Lines To help Scouts form and express views on a subject.
Photo Images To help Scouts to think about and form views on a subject.
Problem letters To help Scouts to explore difficult issues and develop a response to these issues.
Producing Media To help Scouts to research a topic, form opinions and provide information which will educate others in a lively and informative way.
Questionnaire To help Scouts to obtain information or test opinions from a group of people. This will help the Scouts to think carefully of the information that they want and then write questions to obtain this information.
Reading Photos To help Scouts discuss a subject with their peers and express their opinions or views on it.
Run Around Quiz To test Scouts knowledge and provide information on a given topic
True False Game To help Scouts consider a topic and express an opinion on it.
What Happens Next? To help Scouts consider difficult situations and develop empathy for people who find themselves in the given situation. It can also help Scouts to learn about decision-making as they realise that more than one set of actions is possible in a given situation.
